It is encouraging to read Psalm 33:18-22: "Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his steadfast love, that he may deliver their soul from death and keep them alive in famine. Our soul waits for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name. Let your steadfast love, O LORD, be upon us, even as we hope in you."
It is also a reminder that we are to fear of the Lord. Psalm 9:10 tells us, "...the Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
God is almighty and we are to be fearful of Him. He is our creator and our father. We read further on in Psalm 33:21: "For our heart is glad in Him because we trust His holy name. Our trust and our fear bring us gladness because we put God in the position of honour and assume our rightful position as His children. Praise Him."
The celebrations of Purim are happening this weekend. The festival commemorates and celebrates the rescue of the Jews who lived in Persia (modern day Iran) from a death edict. Although Jews had been allowed to return from exile and go back to Judea many remained in Persia where they prospered.
The refusal of Mordecai to bow down to Haman as decreed by the King led to a plot by Haman to have all the Jews killed. Mordecai's niece Ester concealed her Jewish identity in order to reach the King and speak on behalf of her people and expose the plot. She risked her life doing this but, the King listened and punished the wicked Haman by hanging him thus sparing the Jews.
Globally the threat to the Jews through anti-semitism and anti-Israel actions, media coverage and political rhetoric is very much alive today. Modern day Persia is Iran, who have launched a nuclear capable missile with the inscription 'Israel must be destroyed'.
GIVE THANKS for the festival and all it commemorates.
PRAISE GOD for His mercy and love.
GIVE THANKS for God's protection and salvation.
PRAY for the protection of all who celebrate Purim and for the land and people of Israel.
PRAY that the wicked plans of Iran may be frustrated and any attempt to advance their nuclear program fail.
PRAY that in the celebrations of Purim people will see that God is the one in who we must put our faith through Yeshua.
Zechariah 12:10: "And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and pleas for mercy, so that, when they look on me, on him whom they have pierced, they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over him, as one weeps over a firstborn."
PRAY that there will be a turning to God and away from any secular emphasis in this Purim.
This week PM Netanyahu met with President Putin.
PRAY that Russia will understand that Iran is not their friend and that the threat they pose to Israel will be detrimental to everyone.
GIVE THANKS that Netanyahu is straight talking and firm about protecting Israel in the Golan Heights.
PRAY that God will give wisdom to Netanyahu and integrity in all matters both domestically and internationally. Proverbs 21:1 reminds us that our leaders are in God's hands.
While the UK and the US show support for Israel there is always talk of a two-state solution. Israel is often accused of derailing peace efforts due to 'settlement' activity in Palestinian areas. Wrongly referrering to these areas as occupied territory is disingenious are they in fact disputed, unresolved land claims.
'Occupation', de-facto, assumes they are Palestinian land, now and historically. We must oppose this terminology as it is undermines Israel's legitimate right to build and her historical claims on the land.
These areas and the settlements are not the obstacle to peace. The obstacle is the lack of recognition of the right for a Jewish State to exist by the PA.
PRAY for Israel's protection from political attack and misleading inference from other nations along with blatant lies from Hamas.
PRAY for safety and wisdom of those who protect the borders, the IDF and the intelligence services.
PRAY for PM Theresa May and her government, and the Trump administration to be faithful in their support of Israel.
Thank you for joining us in praying. May God bless you.
Have a wonderful Shabbat and blessed weekend.
